How to Clean Your Boat's Soft-Grip / EVA Foam Flooring

EVA foam decking changed the boat industry and redefined what a boat floor can be. Soft underfoot, quiet, no teak to sand, no carpet to mold. What it does not do is hide anything. Sunscreen, dog prints, spilled drinks, and black scuff marks all settle into the texture that makes the surface grippy in the first place.
The instinct is to scrub. Scrubbing a foam deck with the wrong brush and the wrong chemical flattens the texture and lightens the color permanently. Fresh Deck exists so you don't have to.

Why it is safe to use where you actually boat

Full strength or diluted
This is a concentrate, and how you use it depends on what you are fighting.

- Diluted - routine washdowns, whole-deck maintenance, foam cannon applications.
Most owners land on a diluted wash every few outings and a full-strength spot treatment when something specific happens.
The wash
Rinse loose debris
Sand and grit come off first with plain water. Cleaning over grit is how you scratch a deck.
Apply
Spray directly onto the flooring, or run it through a foam cannon for large areas. The high-foaming formula clings to vertical and textured surfaces instead of running off.
Let it soak
One to two minutes. This is the working step - the chemistry is breaking the bond while you do nothing.
Agitate lightly
A soft brush, light pressure, straight passes. If you are leaning into it, the soak was too short.
Rinse thoroughly
Fresh water, all of it. Residue left in the texture attracts dirt faster than a clean deck would.
Common mistakes
Cleaning in direct sun
Product that dries before it rinses leaves residue. Work in shade, early morning, or evening. If you have to work in sun, do smaller sections.
Using a stiff brush
Stiff bristles flatten EVA texture and dull the finish. Soft brush, short handle, light pressure.
Waiting for the deep clean
A diluted rinse every few trips prevents the buildup that requires full strength later. The easiest deep clean is the one you never needed.
If a stain has been on the deck all season, expect to treat it twice. Two soaks at full strength will beat one round of hard scrubbing, and your foam will look better for it.
